This year many of us were caught out by the Hosepipe Bans imposed by
water companies.
The good news:
However
many of the water companies have now recognised that drip irrigation systems use water more efficiently even than hand watering,
and as a result all (bar Sutton & East Surrey & Veolia), allowed the use of drip systems, provided they are controlled
with a timer/water computer and fitted with a pressure reducer. To reduce evaporation wastage watering is best carried out
very early in the morning or late evening. Planning
for the future:
With the UK weather now being so unpredictable planting with drought
tolerant plants, at least in the London area, does not offer a complete solution. Drip feed irrigation systems however are
a definite way forward to protect your garden plants from drought and to use water more efficiently – an easily managed
and ecological solution.
